What is STOTT PILATES

STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary Pilates method that combines the foundations of Pilates with principles from exercise science and rehabilitation. It emphasises precise movement, an informed understanding of the body and adapting exercises to different needs.

During your education, you learn to observe movement, give clear instructions and build purposeful sessions. You develop the knowledge to explain the choices you make as a teacher.

Your path to becoming a Pilates instructor

STOTT PILATES® education follows a modular structure. You can focus on Matwork or Reformer and expand your qualifications over time. We are already accepting expressions of interest for our programme starting in 2027. Available courses, dates and teaching languages will be published with the training schedule.

Reformer Pilates teacher training

Intensive Reformer covers the Essential and Intermediate repertoire at Level 1. You explore equipment settings, exercise modifications and programming for private and group sessions. If you want to teach Reformer Pilates professionally, register your interest in this training pathway.

Matwork Pilates teacher training

Intensive Mat-Plus™ covers Level 1 Essential and Intermediate exercises on the mat and the use of small equipment. The focus includes movement quality, clear instruction and thoughtful session planning. Register your interest if you would like to teach Matwork Pilates.

Further equipment training and professional development

The wider STOTT PILATES® system offers further equipment modules and continuing education. Interested in Chair training or developing a particular teaching skill? Tell us your interests and we will share relevant Vienna opportunities as they are confirmed. A workshop does not replace a complete instructor training and certification exam.

How the training works

Your pathway combines taught sessions, observation, personal practice and practice teaching. Certification requires documented hours and successful completion of written and practical examinations. Attending a course alone does not make you certified.

Minimum requirementMat-PlusReformer
Instruction and supervised teaching40 hours50 hours
Observation10 hours10 hours
Personal practice30 hours40 hours
Practice teaching15 hours25 hours
Total before examinations95 hours125 hours

Merrithew minimum hours for the complete Intensive courses. Examinations are additional. The timetable for our Vienna courses will be announced separately.

Observation means watching qualified teaching. Personal practice means performing and reviewing the exercises yourself. Practice teaching develops your ability to instruct other people. Qualifying activities must meet the relevant STOTT PILATES® requirements.

20 hours of studio practice included

Your training includes 20 hours of independent studio practice at Reformer Sessions. Use our professionally equipped studios to revisit exercises, refine your technique and build confidence alongside fellow trainees.

Practice sessions are booked in advance during designated studio practice hours. This access helps you complete part of your required practice. It does not replace all observation, personal practice and practice-teaching hours required for certification.

Your next steps as a Pilates teacher

We want to support your transition into teaching. After successful completion and with the appropriate qualifications, there may be opportunities to teach at Reformer Sessions. Together, we can explore opportunities that suit your training, strengths and our class schedule.

Teaching opportunities depend on your readiness and available positions. Completing training does not automatically guarantee a job.
